Police Suspect Witchcraft Dispute Behind Brutal Killing in Noamundi Block

CHAIBASA – An elderly couple was found brutally murdered at their home in Lipunga village under Guwa police station in Noamundi block of West Singhbhum district.
The victims were identified as Sargiya Balmuchu, 72, and his wife Mukta Balmuchu, 65. Both were killed by having their throats slit with an axe.
The bodies were discovered Tuesday morning. A villager initially saw the couple lying on a cot. He returned two hours later when they didn’t respond.
Upon lifting the bedsheet, both were found soaked in blood. The discovery triggered panic across the village. Residents gathered at the scene immediately.
Villagers suspect witchcraft accusations may have motivated the murder. However, police are investigating multiple angles in the case.
Guwa police station in-charge Nitish Kumar reached the spot. He began investigation with his team. The officer revealed crucial information about recent events.
Sargiya had a dispute with some villagers recently. A village meeting was held on Sunday. The gathering imposed a penalty on the couple.
Police suspect non-payment of the penalty led to the killing. “The actual reason will become clear after investigation,” Kumar said. Officers are examining all aspects of the case.
The entire village remains in fear following the incident. Police have launched a manhunt for the accused. Meanwhile, authorities have not issued an official statement on camera.
Preliminary investigation confirms both victims died from throat wounds. The weapon used was a traditional axe. Moreover, the attack occurred during nighttime hours.
