Youths Build 150-Feet Bridge for Chhath Since 1990

Shastri Nagar Volunteers Construct Artificial Ghat Without Government Aid

Key Points:

  • Youth group builds 150-feet artificial bridge in Kharkai river annually since 1990
  • Around 1,500 to 2,000 devotees gather at Shastri Nagar Block 2 site
  • Volunteers manage security and cleanliness without any government support

JAMSHEDPUR – A group of young volunteers in Shastri Nagar Block 2 has been constructing an artificial Chhath ghat since 1990 without any government assistance.

The site falls under Kadma police station jurisdiction. The youth build a 150-feet artificial bridge annually. They construct it over the Kharkai river. This enables devotees to perform rituals comfortably.

District administration prepares various Chhath ghats across the city. However, these volunteers work independently at their location. They handle all arrangements through mutual cooperation.

The artificial ghat attracts significant crowds each year. Between 1,500 and 2,000 devotees visit the site. Volunteers manage everything from cleanliness to security arrangements.

“We take complete responsibility on our shoulders,” a volunteer said. The team ensures smooth conduct of the four-day festival. They work tirelessly to prevent any inconvenience to worshippers.

The construction site presents considerable challenges. Deep water flows beneath the bridge location. Moreover, uneven pathways surround the area. Despite these obstacles, volunteers have maintained their commitment.

The youth group has appealed to the administration. They seek construction of a permanent ghat structure. “A permanent facility would eliminate annual difficulties,” they stated.

The volunteers’ dedication spans 25 years now. Their determination represents a remarkable example of community service. They continue building the bridge with unwavering spirit.
