JAMSHEDPUR – The Food Safety Department conducted a surprise inspection at Abhinandan Hotel in Hata under Potka block on Tuesday, uncovering severe hygiene violations and expired food products being sold to customers.
The operation was led by Food Safety Officer Sanjay Kumar as part of an ongoing statewide special investigation under the Food Safety and Standards Act. During the raid, the inspection team found the hotel’s kitchen in an extremely unhygienic state, with visible filth, swarming flies, and rusted utensils.
Inspectors also found that several food items displayed on the counter were unfit for consumption. Shockingly, packets of bread past their expiry dates were being sold to customers. Upon discovering this, the Food Safety Officer sternly warned the hotel operator and directed immediate destruction of all expired items.
Sanjay Kumar stated that serious lapses in cleanliness and safety standards were observed at the premises. The inspection team collected samples of sweets and khoya (mawa) and sent them to a laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken based on the test results, he added.
The officer emphasized that similar surprise inspections will continue across the district to ensure that food establishments comply with hygiene and safety norms.
The raid has created panic among local eateries and hotel operators in the area, as authorities have made it clear that negligence in food safety will attract strict legal action.
