JAMSHEDPUR – A Jamshedpur court has convicted five accused in the notorious Nagadih mob lynching case that once shocked Jharkhand.
The judgment was delivered by the court of First Additional District and Sessions Judge Vimlesh Sahay. The sentencing hearing for the convicted will take place on October 8.
Those found guilty are Rajaram Hansda, Rango Purti, Gopal Hansda, Sunil Sardar, and Tara Mandal. They were convicted under IPC Sections 148, 349/149, 302/149, 341/149, 342/149, 338/149, and 117.
However, due to lack of sufficient evidence, the court acquitted the other accused. The prosecution team in this case included Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, Jagat Vijay Singh, and Sudhir Kumar Pappu.
Meanwhile, the victims’ families expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict. They argued that four murders could not have been committed by just five people. They demanded the death penalty for the convicted. In addition, they announced their plan to challenge the acquittal of the others in the High Court.
The case relates to the brutal mob lynching incident in Nagadih, Jamshedpur, which had caused widespread outrage across the state. All eyes are now set on October 8 when the court will decide on the punishment.
