Walk for Life, Panel Talks and Cultural Events Held in Jamshedpur

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Main Hospital organized an awareness campaign on World Suicide Prevention Day, highlighting the global theme “Changing the Narrative.”
The event began with a symbolic “Walk for Life” flagged off by Dr. Vinita Singh, General Manager, Medical Services, Tata Steel. Senior management, doctors and TMH staff walked together to promote dialogue on suicide prevention.
An inaugural ceremony followed with lighting of the lamp. Dr. Vinita Singh attended as chief guest, while Dr. H.C. Bandhu, Dean Incharge of Manipal Tata Medical College, joined as guest of honor. TMH specialists including Dr. Ashok Sundar, Dr. Mamata Rath Dutta and several others were present.
In her address, Dr. Singh appreciated the psychiatry team’s continuous work and stressed collective responsibility in removing stigma and encouraging compassion and dialogue. A thought-provoking play on suicide prevention was staged by the TMH College of Nursing.
Later, a panel discussion titled “Changing the Narrative: Building Supportive Communities for Suicide Prevention” was moderated by Dr. Manoj Sahu. Panelists included Dr. Mamata Rath Dutta, journalist Sanjay Mishra, principal Upma Dey, clinical psychologist Dr. Harshita Biswas, and Dr. Leela Sameer. They urged breaking the silence around suicide and fostering an open, supportive environment.
The program concluded with the prize distribution of a digital art competition on suicide prevention, followed by a vote of thanks reinforcing TMH’s commitment to mental health.
