Protesters Seek Station Names in Warang Kshiti Script Across Division

JAMSHEDPUR – Adivasi organizations staged a large protest at Chakradharpur Rail Division, demanding station names and announcements in the Ho language script.
The march began from NH 75 and moved to the divisional headquarters. Protesters carried flags and banners while raising slogans against the railway authorities. Security was heightened by RPF as the rally reached the main gate.
Later, a four-member team met Divisional Railway Manager Tarun Huria. They submitted a memorandum seeking station names in the Warang Kshiti script of the Ho language. They also asked for train announcements in the same language.
Dobro Biruli, a noted Adivasi writer, and Pater Jonko of Ho Samaj led the rally. Hundreds of community members joined them. Biruli said Ghaghra station had its name written in Ho script in 2013. However, he claimed it was later erased.
He expressed disappointment and urged the DRM to restore the script. He also requested similar changes at all stations in Ho-speaking regions. “Our community feels deeply hurt. The names must be restored in our language,” said Biruli.
In addition, protesters demanded that travel-related announcements be made in the Ho language. According to Biruli, DRM Huria assured them that the demands would be considered seriously.
The leaders emphasized that Ho is spoken widely in West Singhbhum. They said script usage and announcements would help locals and also promote respect for the language.
