RANCHI – The second day of the Jharkhand Assembly monsoon session on Monday was marred by repeated disruptions as both ruling and opposition legislators staged demonstrations inside and outside the House.
MLAs from the ruling alliance, including JMM, Congress, and RJD, held placards and raised slogans against the Centre. They strongly opposed the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) amendment, known as SIR, as well as the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
On the other hand, BJP legislators demanded a CBI investigation into the recent Surya Hansda encounter in Godda district. They also protested the alleged police excesses during the RIMS-2 agitation in Nagri, Ranchi.
The opposition members carried placards condemning the house arrest of former Chief Minister Champai Soren and the police lathi-charge and tear gas action against tribal demonstrators.
The unusual sight of ruling and opposition MLAs protesting simultaneously highlighted deepening divisions over governance, law and order, and central policies.
