JAMSHEDPUR – Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders in Jamshedpur staged a strong protest on Sunday against a bill passed during the monsoon session of Parliament.

Party workers burnt an effigy of the Prime Minister while shouting slogans. Leaders alleged that the new law is designed to suppress the opposition. They argued that the Centre wants to end dissent through such measures.

According to the provisions of the bill, if the Prime Minister or a Chief Minister is jailed in any case and fails to obtain bail within 30 days, the individual may be removed from office.

JMM leaders clarified that they support genuine reform measures by the Centre. However, they said this particular legislation would be opposed strongly. The opposition has already called the bill a conspiracy and launched protests across the country.
