State adds 27 new DSP posts as promotions span multiple districts

JAMSHEDPUR – Sixty-four inspectors from Jharkhand Police have been promoted to DSP rank.
The state government has cleared promotions for 64 police officers across several districts.
Moreover, the officers now receive the pay grade and responsibilities of Deputy SPs.
This includes personnel from districts like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Chaibasa, Dhanbad, and Ranchi.
In addition, officers from elite units like CIB, STF, ATS, and the Special Branch are on the list.
Notably, names like Sanjay Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Binay Prasad Mandal, and Ram Babu Mandal from Jamshedpur feature prominently.
However, the government also expanded DSP posts from 167 to 194 recently.
Of the 27 added posts, 61 are unreserved while one ST and two SC positions were included.
Furthermore, the promotions adhere to eligibility norms, including tenure and service rules.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Ranjan, Ajay Kumar, Shambhu Gupta, and Neeraj Kumar Singh are among those promoted.
“Promotions were long overdue and will strengthen field-level leadership,” said a local source.
In February, 38 DSPs were elevated to Senior DSP positions across various zones.
Besides, 17 officers now qualify for IPS-level promotions following recent clearances.
On the other hand, the Jharkhand High Court recently removed a stay on DySP to SP promotions.
Currently, only 100 of 149 IPS posts in the state are filled, increasing the significance of DSP roles.
DSP officers usually lead subdivisions and need 10–12 years’ service for SP promotion.
Moreover, previous piping ceremonies in Ranchi signaled similar elevation exercises.
In addition, these promotions are effective immediately as per the Home Department’s notification.
