Awareness Events Mark National Girl Child Day in Palamu

MEDININAGAR – On Sunday, National Girl Child Day was celebrated at the CMT Centre in Dhawadih, Satbarwa. The event, organized jointly by Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) and PCI India under the Umang Project, aimed to raise awareness about girls’ empowerment and rights.
District Council Member Sudha Kumari inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Addressing the attendees, she emphasized the importance of self-awareness among mothers and adolescent girls about their rights. “The government is implementing various initiatives to uplift women, but their benefits can only be reaped through active awareness,” she stated.
Discussions on Empowerment and Rights
PCI India representative Suman Kumari highlighted the objectives of the Umang Project, focusing on this year’s theme, “Empowering Girls for a Bright Future.” She stressed the importance of providing equal opportunities for girls. Anita Kerketta, JSLPS District Program Manager, encouraged girls to make informed decisions regarding education and marriage and to use social media responsibly.
Ajit Pathak of New Culture Society shed light on the significance of National Girl Child Day, urging the community to take a stand against child marriage.
Rangoli and Slogan Competitions Inspire Participation
The celebrations included a Rangoli and slogan-writing competition, emphasizing the mother-daughter partnership. Akanksha Kumari secured the first position in both competitions, with Rekha Kumari and Sakshi Kumari winning second and third places in Rangoli, and Harshita Pathak and Srishti Singh achieving second and third in slogan writing. The winners were awarded to boost their morale.
Prominent attendees included Dhawadih Mukhiya Rinki Devi, UNICEF District Representative Dr. Tabrez, social activist Chanda Jha, and district representative of Pradan, Omprakash Kumar, along with a large audience.
