NGT Order Halts Waste Dumping at Sonari Marine Drive

Mango Municipal Corp Faces Crisis as Locals Block Alternative Disposal Sites

Key Points:

  • NGT stops 200-ton daily waste disposal at Sonari following MLA’s petition
  • Protests block new dumping sites at Betakocha and Dimna areas
  • JNAC diverts waste to Sidhgora CRM Bara with Tata Steel UISL approval

JAMSHEDPUR – The National Green Tribunal has ordered an immediate halt to garbage dumping at Sonari Marine Drive, triggering a waste management crisis.

The directive came after local MLA Saryu Roy’s petition about environmental concerns. The site previously handled 200 tons of daily waste.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Pollution Control Board received orders to address the fire hazard. The situation demands immediate action.

Alternative Sites Face Opposition

The Mango Municipal Corporation identified Betakocha for waste disposal. However, villagers strongly opposed the plan.

Moreover, attempts to use the Dimna site met with similar resistance. Garbage vehicles remain stranded with their loads.

“The situation is becoming critical with each passing day,” noted a municipal official.

Current Solutions and Challenges

JNAC has found temporary relief at Sidhgora CRM Bara. The site already serves Tata Steel UISL’s disposal needs.

On the other hand, Mango’s waste collection services face potential disruption. The corporation struggles with filled vehicles.

Furthermore, environmental experts warn of health risks. The crisis demands swift resolution to prevent public health issues.
