Saturday Half-Day Off Added for Tata Main Hospital Staff
Key Points:
- TMH doctors to follow 5.5-day workweek schedule
- Saturday second half declared as an official holiday
- Policy to be reviewed after three months for improvements
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has revised the work schedule for Tata Main Hospital (TMH) doctors, implementing a 5.5-day workweek model. The policy introduces an additional half-day off on Saturdays while ensuring that patient care remains unaffected.
Doctors and specialists will continue to provide OPD services on Saturday mornings. However, Saturday afternoons and Sundays are now official holidays. The management plans to review this new system after three months to assess its effectiveness.
Key Changes in Work Schedule
The revised schedule applies to medical specialists, super specialists, medical officers, and administrative staff, including HRM, IT, TQM, and finance departments. The changes also extend to TMH units in Noamundi, West Bokaro, Jamadoba, and Joda.
However, employees working in A, B, and C shifts, TMH clinic doctors, and staff involved in on-call or DOD duties remain excluded. Additionally, Tata Steel employees in Sahibabad, Angul, and Khopoli are not eligible for this policy.
No Compensatory Leave for Additional Work
As per the circular issued by Tata Steel’s Vice President of HRM, Atreyee Sanyal, there will be no provision for compensatory leave if any doctor attends duty during the designated half-day off on Saturdays. Lunch breaks will remain unchanged, and regular in-and-out attendance punching is mandatory.
The management retains the authority to revoke the 5.5-day work schedule if necessary. Meetings during Saturday afternoons and Sundays have also been restricted to ensure proper utilization of the new holiday structure.
Future Evaluation and Impact
The new schedule aims to improve work-life balance for TMH doctors while maintaining patient care standards. The three-month review will focus on operational efficiency and the satisfaction of both staff and patients.
