JAMSHEDPUR – The district administration convened a significant meeting to discuss strategies for reducing road accidents during Road Safety Week.
Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal chaired the session, with Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal, District Transport Officer Dhananjay Kumar, Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police, and representatives from various social organizations in attendance. The focus was on implementing measures to decrease road mishaps.
Mittal emphasized that citizen safety is the administration’s top priority. He highlighted ongoing awareness campaigns and strict enforcement against encroachments and traffic violations to promote road safety. Plans include widening roads and taking action against heavy vehicles parked in no-parking zones.
Kaushal noted frequent accidents between Pardih Chowk and Barabanki Chowk, primarily due to unauthorized parking of heavy vehicles on the National Highway. He assured that measures would be taken to address this issue.
Recent Road Safety Initiatives
In June 2024, the district administration intensified efforts to curb traffic violations. A vehicle inspection campaign led to fines totaling approximately Rs 7 lakh from drivers without helmets and seat belts.
Additionally, 114 driving licenses were suspended for violating road safety rules. The administration also organized workshops in schools to educate students on traffic regulations.
