Cyclone Fengal to Bring Rains and Cooler Temperatures to Jharkhand

Southern and central districts to witness light rainfall and temperature drops

Key Points:

  • Cyclone Fengal to affect Kolhan, Hazaribagh, and Palamu regions.

  • Light rain forecast in East and West Singhbhum, Khunti, and Simdega.

  • Temperatures to dip across northern and central Jharkhand.

RANCHI – Cyclone Fengal is set to impact Jharkhand’s southern, central, and northern regions with light rains and cooler temperatures over the next few days. The meteorological department predicts the effects will last until December 4, with conditions normalizing by December 5.

Impact on Kolhan and Central Jharkhand

The cyclone will bring scattered rain to East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Khunti, and Simdega districts. Light showers are also expected in central Jharkhand regions. Meteorologist Abhishek Anand stated that the cyclone is advancing steadily at a speed of 80 km/h after making landfall near Mahabalipuram and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu late Saturday night.

Changes in Temperature and Weather Conditions

In Jharkhand, the cyclone’s effects have already led to overcast skies and temperature fluctuations. On Sunday, Ranchi recorded a daytime temperature of 25.1°C, 3.3°C below normal. However, nighttime temperatures were unusually warm at 18.1°C, 5.1°C above the average.

Humidity levels varied between 60% and 78%, making nights feel warmer despite the cooler daytime conditions. Experts predict a further dip in temperatures in northern districts like Hazaribagh, Palamu, and Santhal, where significant cooling is expected.

Broader Cyclonic Effects

Cyclone Fengal’s strongest impact has been in Tamil Nadu, where the southern and western Bay of Bengal regions experienced cyclonic circulation. Although Jharkhand will experience milder effects, the cyclone underlines the far-reaching influence of weather systems in India.
