JAMSHEDPUR – A united effort between XLRI Jamshedpur’s PEACE Community and the Jamshedpur Forest Department resulted in a successful cleanup of Dalma Hills, underscoring the importance of environmental preservation.

The PEACE Community’s Initiative

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, XLRI’s PEACE (People for Environmental Awareness and Conservation of Ecosystems) community led a comprehensive cleanup of Dalma Hills.

The area, known for its ecological significance as the “lungs of Jamshedpur,” serves as a sanctuary for wildlife and provides fresh air to the urban populace.

Volunteers tirelessly collected significant amounts of plastic and glass waste, aiming to restore Dalma’s natural beauty while raising awareness about the dangers of pollution.

One participant shared, “This campaign is not just about cleaning; it’s about fostering a sense of responsibility toward our environment.”

Role of the Forest Department

Jamshedpur’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Saba Alam emphasized the link between Dalma’s health and the well-being of the city’s residents.

“Dalma is more than a sanctuary for wildlife; it’s a sanctuary for the people of Jamshedpur,” Alam remarked, urging citizens to actively protect green spaces.

Collaborating with PEACE volunteers, the Forest Department helped clear substantial waste from the hilltop, reinforcing the campaign’s impact.

An Environmental Milestone

This initiative highlighted the power of community and institutional collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.

The campaign also aligned with Swachh Bharat Mission’s goals of eliminating open defecation and improving waste management across India.

By involving local youth and government agencies, the drive set an example of collective responsibility toward sustainability.

Looking Forward

The success of the Dalma Hills cleanup reaffirmed the value of grassroots participation in environmental conservation.

Both PEACE and the Forest Department are committed to continuing their efforts to preserve Jamshedpur’s green areas.

Through education, awareness, and hands-on initiatives, they hope to inspire future generations to take charge of their environment.

“Protecting Dalma is about safeguarding the future,” said a PEACE volunteer, reflecting the shared vision of a cleaner and greener India.

This campaign called on every citizen to be part of the movement toward a sustainable future, demonstrating that Swachh Bharat’s vision is achievable through collective action.
