Train Safety Gets Boost with Kavach System in Eastern India

SER Zone to Install Advanced Anti-Collision Tech Across 2,759 km of Critical Rail Routes

Key Points:

* Indigenous Kavach system prevents train collisions through automated safety features

* South Eastern Railway implementing system across major routes by March 2028

* Technology enables safer operations and prepares network for high-speed rail travel

JAMSHEDPUR – South Eastern Railway advances railway safety through implementation of indigenous Kavach anti-collision system across major routes.

The innovative Kavach system enhances train safety through automated emergency braking and real-time monitoring.

Moreover, the technology functions effectively even in challenging weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the installation will cover 688 kilometers of the HDN route connecting Howrah, Kharagpur, and other key sections.

Furthermore, bidding for this crucial segment begins November 25, 2024.

In addition, the railway authorities have approved work on the 1,556-kilometer HUN route section.

On the other hand, tenders for this portion will open by January 31, 2025.

"The Kavach system represents a significant leap forward in railway safety technology," stated a senior railway official.

However, the project faces unique challenges due to India’s diverse rail operations.

Besides, the remaining 515 kilometers fall under the 2024-2025 financial plan.

Meanwhile, the system has already been successfully deployed across 1,548 route kilometers nationwide.

Furthermore, work is actively progressing on an additional 3,000 route kilometers.
