MEDININAGAR – In honor of the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikh community celebrated with a grand procession on Thursday, filling the streets with devotion and festivities.

Starting from the Gurudwara at Bel Vatika, the event, organized under the leadership of the Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha Committee, brought together a large gathering of men and women from the Sikh community.

The procession commenced with the sacred Guru Granth Sahib placed on a beautifully decorated chariot, leading a line of devotees and Panj Pyare – the five symbolic beloved ones of the Sikh faith.

Members of the Sikh community, including men, women, and children from Dasmesh Model School and Gurukulam International School, participated, creating an atmosphere of respect and devotion.

Adults accompanied the procession, cleaning the roads and scattering flowers to honor Guru Nanak’s teachings of humility and service.

Community Enthusiasm and Traditional Arts

The Panj Pyare who led the procession included Sardar Harmeet Singh, Bhola Singh, Ranveer, Fateh Singh, and Rajveer Singh in the smaller group, while Sardar Pratap Singh, Jarnail Singh, Uttam Singh, Manjeet, and Upendra Singh represented the larger group.

Accompanied by music and shabad singing by the Raagi Jatha, the procession traveled across the city, including stops at popular areas such as Bel Vatika Chowk, Nawatoil Chowk, and Subhash Chowk.

A highlight of the event was the performance by artists from the Patiala Khalsa Jatha, who showcased traditional Sikh martial arts, leaving the audience captivated.

The Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha Committee’s President, Sardar Satveer Singh Raja, along with members Sardar Charan Preet Singh, Rajinder Singh Bunty, and others, expressed gratitude for the community’s turnout.

Various organizations, including the Namdhari Gurudwara Management Committee at Nawatoil Chowk, welcomed the procession by offering garlands to the Panj Pyare and distributing fruits and snacks among the people.

Groups like the Giants Group of Daltonganj, Ranchi Tent House, Bombay Traders, and Mahindra Orchid joined in supporting the celebration, highlighting the event’s spirit of unity and hospitality.

The procession concluded back at the Gurudwara, where devotees gathered for an evening Diwan, marking the occasion with shabad kirtan and paying homage to the teachings of Guru Nanak.
