MEDININAGAR – Palamu district witnessed a strong voter turnout of 62.62% in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, with polling in all five constituencies concluding smoothly on Wednesday. From morning till evening, voters turned out across 1,796 polling centers, where a peaceful and organized voting process was ensured.

Officials noted high enthusiasm among voters across the district, with elderly citizens, differently-abled individuals, and young voters actively participating. Palamu’s District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shashi Ranjan shared that security arrangements were extensive, with GPS tracking systems installed across polling centers for real-time monitoring from a central control room.

Efficient Organization and Voter Enthusiasm

Palamu’s polling centers opened at 7 a.m., with voters lining up early in both urban and rural areas. The DC confirmed that several model booths had been established, and senior officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishma Ramesan, visited key areas to observe the voting. “The high turnout reflects the strong civic spirit among Palamu’s voters,” stated an election official overseeing the process.

While the voting proceeded smoothly, minor technical issues were noted during mock polls. Some ballot units and control units required replacement before voting began, with officials quickly addressing these issues. In total, four ballot units, nine control units, and 21 VVPAT machines were replaced to ensure a seamless voting experience.

Resolutions and Results Across Constituencies

Despite reports of a potential voting boycott at three booths in the Hussainabad constituency, officials quickly intervened, reassuring voters and facilitating their participation. The DC confirmed that after their efforts, voting proceeded smoothly in the area.

By the end of the day, Palamu’s constituencies reported varying voter turnout rates: Vishrampur at 62.63%, Chhatarpur at 60.88%, Daltonganj at 64.82%, Hussainabad at 59.04%, and Panki at 65.13%. With no incidents reported across Palamu, DC Shashi Ranjan expressed satisfaction with the turnout and emphasized the increased count expected from postal ballots. The district’s EVMs and VVPAT machines were secured under CRPF supervision, with remote center machines set to arrive for final safekeeping on Thursday.

In line with electoral protocol, Palamu district completed this phase of voting smoothly, reflecting an engaged and orderly approach from voters and officials alike.
