• CP Singh has held Ranchi assembly seat continuously since 1997

• JMM announces 35 candidates including CM Soren from Barhet, aims for 41 seats total

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has nominated Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji to challenge BJP’s long-standing dominance in the Ranchi assembly constituency.

The 2024 assembly elections will witness a rematch between these political heavyweights.

Moreover, CP Singh’s grip on the Ranchi seat spans over two decades.

However, a local political analyst noted that Maji’s appointment to Rajya Sabha demonstrates her significant standing within JMM.

In the 2019 electoral battle, the margin of victory was relatively narrow.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s control over this constituency dates back to 1990.

Furthermore, the JMM leadership has unveiled its initial roster of candidates.

Additionally, Chief Minister Hemant Soren will seek re-election from Barhet.

On the other hand, Kalpana Soren and Basant Soren will contest from Gandey and Dumka respectively.

A party insider revealed that JMM aims to field candidates in 41 constituencies of the 81-member assembly.
