JAMSHEDPUR – BJP has selected Sonaram Bodra, the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Council President, as their candidate for the Kharsawan Assembly seat.
Sonaram Bodra, who recently joined the BJP along with former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren, was immediately declared as the party’s candidate.
Bodra’s candidacy comes after intense competition within the party, which saw multiple leaders vying for the ticket. However, following Bodra’s selection, long-time BJP member Ganesh Mahli is all set to defect to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and is currently camping in Ranchi.
Supporters of Bodra were seen celebrating his nomination by distributing sweets. In a media statement, Bodra expressed his gratitude towards key BJP figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He promised to fulfill the party’s expectations, stating, “We will ensure the formation of an NDA government in Jharkhand with support from Kolhan to Santhal.”
Previously, Bodra worked for Tata Steel before entering politics under Champai Soren’s influence. He won the district council elections as a JMM candidate before switching to the BJP. Now, he faces the challenge of winning the Kharsawan seat, which has been held by JMM for the past decade.
Former Seraikela MLA representative Sanand Kumar Acharya, another close associate of Champai Soren, also joined the BJP and predicted victories for the NDA across Kolhan’s 14 constituencies. He praised Bodra’s development efforts and predicted significant change in Kharsawan.
