JNAC initiative aims to protect Subarnarekha river during Durga Puja festivities

Key Points:

• Artificial pond constructed for idol immersion to protect Subarnarekha

• JNAC urges all to use designated site instead of river

• Eco-friendly measure part of broader anti-pollution efforts

JAMSHEDPUR – The city’s authorities have constructed an artificial pond for idol immersion to safeguard the Subarnarekha river from pollution during Durga Puja celebrations.

The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has spearheaded this eco-friendly initiative.

On the other hand, a temporary path will be built to ensure easy access to the pond.

Moreover, the area will be illuminated with decorative lights to enhance its appeal.

The deputy commissioner has strongly encouraged all Puja committees and residents to utilize this designated site.

"This artificial pond will help mitigate river pollution caused by idol immersion materials," stated Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of JNAC.

In addition, this measure is part of Jamshedpur’s broader strategy to combat festival-related pollution.

Last year, the city witnessed Durga Puja celebrations at 424 locations, including 324 licensed pandals.

Furthermore, many citizens observe the festival in temples and homes.

However, the traditional practice of immersing idols in rivers has raised environmental concerns.

This innovative approach aims to strike a balance between cultural traditions and ecological preservation.

In contrast to previous years, this new measure is expected to significantly reduce water pollution levels.
