JAMSHEDPUR – The verbal duel between Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy and state Health Minister Banna Gupta continues. Saryu Roy has fired a fresh volley of attacks on Banna Gupta.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, MLA Saryu Roy has accused Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta of protecting criminal elements in Jamshedpur, resulting in a spike in crime and undermining police efforts.
In a strongly-worded press statement, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy criticized state Health Minister Banna Gupta, accusing him of directly influencing the police force in Jamshedpur to protect certain criminal gangs.
Roy stated that this political interference is hampering the police’s ability to control crime in the city.
He argued that the police, despite having competent and diligent officers, are unable to function effectively due to the pressure exerted by Gupta.
This pressure, according to Roy, has led to a significant rise in criminal activities in Jamshedpur.
Allegations of Criminal Protection
Roy specifically accused Gupta of shielding the main accused in the recent Shaktinath Singh murder case.
He alleged that Ishwar Singh, a close associate of Gupta and president of the Mango Congress unit, was given special treatment despite being a prime suspect.
According to Roy, even after strong evidence and eyewitness testimony against Ishwar Singh, the police delayed his arrest for four days.
Roy further claimed that when Singh was finally arrested, he was sent to MGM Hospital instead of being taken to jail.
Roy questioned the sudden illness that necessitated Singh’s transfer to the hospital, suggesting that it was done under Gupta’s influence.
He demanded a medical board be formed to investigate Singh’s health condition and the reasons behind his hospital transfer.
Calls for Investigation and Action
The MLA also accused Gupta of previously protecting another criminal, Amarnath Singh, who was notorious in the Mango area.
Roy highlighted that Amarnath Singh, like Ishwar Singh, had been prominently featured in posters and hoardings alongside Gupta.
He alleged that Gupta’s support had allowed Amarnath Singh to amass illegal property and dominate the criminal underworld.
Roy linked Gupta’s alleged criminal connections to the broader problem of rising crime in Jamshedpur, stating that the minister’s actions have emboldened local gangs and criminal groups.
He called on the Jamshedpur police to request permission from the state government to take action against Gupta.
Roy insisted that only by investigating Gupta’s role in these criminal activities can the police restore order in the city.
He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into Gupta’s alleged misuse of power, particularly in the Shaktinath Singh case.
According to Roy, without addressing the influence exerted by Gupta, controlling crime in Jamshedpur will remain a difficult task for the police.
He urged the state government to consider the information gathered by the police’s intelligence branch and to authorize immediate action against Gupta.
"This is the only way to break the morale of the criminals and their protectors," Roy concluded.
