XLRI Jamshedpur: Collaborative Effort Launched for Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary’s Eco-Sensitive Zone

XLRI Jamshedpur and Jharkhand Forest Department Join Forces for Sustainable Development

XLRI Jamshedpur partners with Jharkhand’s Forest Department to create a comprehensive Zonal Master Plan for Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary’s Eco-Sensitive Zone.

JAMSHEDPUR – XLRI Jamshedpur and the Jharkhand Forest Department have signed an MOU to develop a Zonal Master Plan for the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary’s Eco-Sensitive Zone.

The MOU signing ceremony took place at the forest department office near Sonari Sai Mandir, Jamshedpur.

Key officials from both organizations were present at the event.

The collaborative effort aims to create a balanced plan for ecological preservation and local development.

XLRI’s Fr. Arrupe Centre for Ecology & Sustainability will lead the two-year project.

The Eco-Sensitive Zone covers 522.98 square kilometers, encompassing 136 villages across multiple districts.

This designation prohibits commercial activities within the sanctuary to protect wildlife and the ecosystem.

XLRI will employ a comprehensive approach, including stakeholder consultations and advanced data analytics.

The plan will address the challenges of forest conservation and human-animal conflict.

"Our goal is to create a futuristic plan that balances ecological security with the socio-economic aspirations of local stakeholders," stated Prof. Raghu Ram Tata, the project’s Principal Investigator.

The team will conduct extensive surveys and utilize Geographic Information System technology.

Activities within the Eco-Sensitive Zone will be categorized as Prohibited, Permitted, or Regulated.

XLRI commits to adhering to all guidelines set by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Supreme Court.

The project underscores the importance of sustainable development in protected areas.
