A tragic railway accident in Jharkhand claims lives and leaves many injured, prompting swift rescue efforts.

JAMSHEDPUR – A devastating derailment of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail Express near Barabambo Railway Station has resulted in fatalities and numerous injuries.

The incident occurred at 3:45 AM on Tuesday when 17 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail Express veered off the tracks.

Two passengers, trapped in the train’s lavatory, lost their lives in the unfortunate event.

Eight individuals with severe injuries were admitted to Chakradharpur Railway Division Hospital.

Rescue and Relief Operations

Emergency response teams swiftly mobilized to the accident site.

A special train transported unharmed passengers to Chakradharpur.

Medical professionals from Ranchi were dispatched to provide assistance.

Local authorities, including Deputy Commissioners of West Singhbhum and Seraikela, are overseeing relief efforts.

Railway Response

South Eastern Railway General Manager Anil Mishra inspected the crash site.

He announced compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for deceased victims’ families and Rs. 1 lakh for severely injured passengers.

Mishra stated, “Restoration of the affected line may take 18 to 24 hours. We’re investigating the cause of the accident.”

Government Intervention

State Health Minister Banna Gupta visited the site and declared additional compensation.

“The state government will provide Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured,” Gupta announced.

He criticized the central government, saying, “Despite talks of high-tech railways, such accidents are concerning.”

Impact on Rail Traffic

The derailment has halted traffic on the busy Howrah-Mumbai route.

All passenger trains originating from Chakradharpur have been cancelled for the day.

Officials are working to clear the debris and repair damaged infrastructure, including overhead lines and tracks.
