JAMSHEDPUR – A four-year-old boy narrowly escaped tragedy after falling into a local pond in Darisai Sabar Basti on Saturday.

Sandeep Sabar was playing with village children when he accidentally fell into the water, prompting immediate action from a quick-thinking youth nearby.

"The child was unconscious when pulled from the pond," reported an eyewitness to the rescue.

Sandeep was rushed to the Ghatshila sub divisional hospital, where Dr. Vikas Mardi provided urgent medical attention.

Vishu Sabar, the child’s father, recounted the incident: "Sandeep had just returned from the Anganwadi centre and was playing after lunch when this happened unnoticed."

The locals expressed relief as Sandeep’s condition stabilized under medical care.

"We’re grateful for the young man’s quick response," a neighbor commented, highlighting the importance of community vigilance.

This incident underscores the risks children face in rural areas with open water bodies nearby.

Local authorities are considering measures to improve safety around village ponds to prevent similar accidents.

The Anganwadi centre staff have been alerted to enhance supervision of children during and after their time at the facility.

Dr. Mardi emphasized the critical nature of prompt action in drowning cases: "Quick rescue and immediate medical attention are crucial in such incidents."

Community leaders are planning awareness programs on water safety for both children and adults in the wake of this near-tragedy.

The incident has sparked discussions about the need for swimming lessons and water safety education in rural areas.

As Sandeep recovers, his family and the community reflect on the importance of constant vigilance when children are near water bodies.
