Industry Leaders Discuss Future-Proofing Manufacturing Sector
The 11th edition of the CII Manufacturing Conclave East, themed "Future Ready to Future Proof Manufacturing," was held at a hotel in Adityapur on Friday.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) recently held the 11th Manufacturing Conclave East, with a focus on exploring emerging technologies to ensure the long-term sustainability of the manufacturing sector.
The purpose of the conclave was to improve competitiveness, inclusiveness, and sustainability in the manufacturing industry.
Highlights and keynote speakers:
Kamal Bali, the President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd, attended the event and talked about India’s impressive GDP growth of 8.2% despite the challenges faced globally.
He said, "If India keeps up an 8% growth rate for more than 20 years, it could help lift millions of people out of poverty."
Bali discussed the importance of being adaptable, flexible, and innovative. He shared eight major trends that can help the manufacturing sector grow to $6 trillion by 2047.
Suvendra Behera, who is the Chairman of CII Eastern Region and also the Vice Chairman & Managing Director of RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd, discussed the problem of brain drain and emphasized the importance of establishing improved skill development centers in India.
He said that the manufacturing sector contributes around 16-17% to India’s GDP and they are aiming to increase it to 25% by 2025.

Ranjot Singh, the Chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and Managing Director of Emdet Jamshedpur Private Limited, inaugurated the session and expressed his confidence in India’s potential to become a leading manufacturing hub by 2030.
He highlighted the crucial role that the Eastern Region plays in India’s industrial growth.
Ramphal Nehra, who is the Chairman of the CII ER Manufacturing Sub Committee and also the Director and Plant Manager of Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd, emphasized the significance of government schemes in promoting dynamic growth in the manufacturing sector.
He emphasized the wide range of investment opportunities available under the "Make in India" initiative.
Local contributions and economic impact
Ujjal Chakraborti, who is the Immediate Past Chairman of CII Jharkhand State Council and also the Managing Director of Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing and Processing Company Pvt Ltd, spoke highly of Jharkhand’s advantageous position and abundant mineral resources.
He mentioned that Jharkhand’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has experienced a growth rate of 7.5% in recent years, and the manufacturing sector has played a significant role in this growth.
The Role of Sustainability and MSMEs
Ravindra Kulkarni, who serves as the Vice Chairman of CII Jamshedpur Zonal Council and is the Head of Jamshedpur Plant at Tata Motors Ltd, emphasized India’s dedication to sustainability. The country has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by the year 2070.
He emphasized that MSMEs are the backbone of the economy and stressed the significance of digital transformation, data analytics, and robotics.
What does the future hold?
Prithish Chowdhary, who is the Co-Chairman of CII ER Manufacturing Sub Committee and also the Deputy Managing Director of Titagarh Rail System Ltd, expressed his positive outlook on India’s growth. He described it as a resurgence of the country’s past greatness.
The conclave included valuable perspectives from industry leaders like Sanjay Sabherwal, Saurabh Verma, Ravish Sharma, and several others.
The sessions discussed the importance of aligning with global value chains, embracing intelligent manufacturing technologies, and promoting inclusive and sustainable practices.

The Manufacturing Conclave East’s 11th edition was attended by more than 200 participants, offering them valuable chances to network and gain practical strategies for navigating the ever-changing manufacturing industry.
