State’s Political History Marked By Frequent Leadership Changes Since 2000
Only one CM – Raghubar Das – has completed full term in office during Jharkhand’s 24-year history.
RANCHI – Hemant Soren is poised to become Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the third time, marking the 13th change in leadership since the state’s formation in 2000.
"Jharkhand’s political landscape has been characterized by frequent changes in leadership," noted a political analyst familiar with the state’s history.
Since its creation, Jharkhand has seen 12 Chief Ministers, with BJP’s Raghubar Das being the only one to complete a full five-year term.
The state has experienced three periods of President’s rule during times of political instability.
Babulal Marandi served as the inaugural Chief Minister, followed by multiple terms for leaders like Arjun Munda and Shibu Soren.
"The frequent changes in government have impacted the state’s development trajectory," the analyst added.
Hemant Soren’s previous term was cut short due to legal issues, leading to a brief tenure by Champai Soren.
The JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government has maintained its majority despite recent political turmoil.
Soren’s return to power comes amidst ongoing challenges in governance and development in the mineral-rich state.
This latest change in leadership underscores the complex political dynamics at play in Jharkhand.
