Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Granted Bail in Land Scam Case

High Court decision brings relief to JMM leader after five months in custody

Release expected to energize party ahead of upcoming assembly elections.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the alleged land scam case, offering a significant reprieve to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader.

Soren had been in judicial custody since January 31, when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in connection with the case.

Justice Rajesh Shankar of the Jharkhand High Court delivered the verdict after reserving judgment on June 13.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal and High Court senior advocate Piyush Chitresh represented Soren during the bail hearings.

This decision brings immense relief to our party and supporters,” a JMM spokesperson stated.

Soren is expected to be released from jail either Friday evening or Saturday, pending completion of formalities.

The case also involves 22 other accused, including JMM leader Antu Tirkey, bureaucrat Chhavi Ranjan, and businessman Amit Agarwal.

This development is seen as a significant boost for the JMM ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

“Soren’s release will allow him to actively participate in campaigning and reinvigorate the party’s efforts,” a political analyst commented.

The JMM leadership expressed confidence that Soren would return with renewed energy to lead the party’s election strategy.

This bail order marks a crucial turning point in the high-profile case that has dominated Jharkhand’s political landscape for months.

The impact of Soren’s release on the state’s political dynamics and the ongoing investigation remains to be seen.

Soon after his release, Hemant Soren remarked in a statement that all problems vanish if one has his mother’s blessings.
