Youth Leaders Receive Gender and Caste Sensitivity Training in Potka

YUVA and Comic Relief Kriya collaborate for capacity-building workshop

Program aims to empower young women to address social inequalities.

JAMSHEDPUR – A block-level capacity-building training for young female leaders was conducted in Tentla Panchayat of Potka block, focusing on gender and caste issues.

The event was jointly organized by Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA) and Comic Relief Kriya.

YUVA member Chandmani Savaiyan welcomed participants and facilitated introductions.

Project Coordinator Anjana Devgam provided detailed insights into caste-based violence, untouchability practices, and division of labor.

"We examined how these factors impact sexuality, opportunities, and social mobility," Devgam explained.

Thirty young women leaders from 15 panchayats participated in the training program.

Participants developed their understanding of the intersectionality between gender and caste discrimination.

"We explored how these interconnected issues affect marginalized community members, leading to exploitation and denial of rights," a participant noted.

The training highlighted the deeply entrenched nature of the caste system in society.

Young leaders collaboratively strategized on identifying caste-related issues in their communities and initiating change through their organizations.

"This workshop has empowered us to take concrete steps towards social equality," another participant shared.

YUVA members provided support to ensure the program’s success.

This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to sensitize youth leaders on critical social issues affecting rural Jharkhand.

The training underscores the importance of grassroots leadership in addressing systemic inequalities.
