Tata Workers Union Pledges Support After Tragic Beach Incident

Tata Workers Union president visits bereaved family, offering condolences and assurances of support following the untimely death of a young Tata Steel employee.

JAMSHEDPUR – Sanjeev Chaudhary Tunnu, President of the Tata Workers Union, made a compassionate visit to the family of Sandeep Kumar Upadhyay, a 25-year-old Tata Steel employee who tragically drowned while on vacation in Puri, Odisha.

"We stand with the Upadhyay family during this difficult time," Chaudhary stated during his Tuesday visit. "The union will ensure all necessary support is provided to help them through this tragic loss."

Sandeep, an unmarried resident of Sidhgora, had been working as an Operation Assistant in Tata Steel’s Iron Making Refractories Department since 2020. His father, Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay, is a retired Tata Steel employee.

The incident occurred on a Saturday when Sandeep was bathing with friends at a Puri beach. Caught in a strong wave, he was swept away despite rescue attempts. His body was recovered hours later, about five kilometers from where he was last seen.

"Sandeep was a promising young employee," a colleague remembered. "His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him."

Chaudhary assured the family that the union would assist in facilitating any settlements due to them, emphasizing the Tata Workers Union’s commitment to supporting its members and their families in times of crisis.

This tragic event has highlighted the importance of beach safety awareness and the need for vigilance during leisure activities.
