AJSU Marks 38th Foundation Day as ‘Balidan Diwas’ in Ichagarh

Party commemorates founder Nirmal Mahto, distributes saplings to promote environmental conservation

Hareram Mahto highlights AJSU’s role in Jharkhand statehood movement and current political landscape.

JAMSHEDPUR – The All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) celebrated its 38th Foundation Day as ‘Balidan Diwas’ (Sacrifice Day) in the Ichagarh Assembly constituency on Thursday.

The event began with tributes to martyred founder Nirmal Mahto at the party’s Chilgu office.

AJSU Central General Secretary Hareram Mahto addressed the gathering, recounting the party’s formation on June 22, 1986, in Jamshedpur.

Mahto highlighted AJSU’s active role in the Jharkhand statehood movement, drawing parallels to Subhash Chandra Bose’s independence struggle tactics.

He recalled key moments in AJSU’s history, including the 1989 Lok Sabha election boycott and the 1990 Jharkhand Ekta Padyatra covering 600 km in 15 days.

The leader emphasized AJSU’s commitment to fighting for the rights of exploited and marginalized communities.

As part of the celebration, Mahto distributed saplings to hundreds of party workers, encouraging environmental conservation.

"We need to protect the environment alongside societal development. Everyone should plant at least five trees," Mahto urged.

The event showcased AJSU’s evolution from a student movement to an established political party in Jharkhand.

Party workers reflected on AJSU’s journey from contesting on JMM’s symbol in 1990 to now having its own election symbol.

The celebration reinforced AJSU’s dual focus on political activism and environmental responsibility.

Local leaders used the platform to mobilize grassroots support and reaffirm the party’s core principles.
