Mohan Charan Majhi Sworn In as First BJP Chief Minister of Odisha

Historic Ceremony Attended by Prime Minister Modi and Senior Leaders

Four-time MLA and tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in as the first BJP chief minister of Odisha on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone for the party in the state.

DESK – In a historic ceremony held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, four-time MLA and tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi took the oath of office as the first BJP chief minister of Odisha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several Union ministers and chief ministers, attended the event.

Senior BJP leader and Patnagarh MLA KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, a newcomer from the Nimapara assembly segment, were sworn in as deputy chief ministers.

Governor Rabghubar Das administered the oath of secrecy and office to Majhi and other members of his council of ministers.

This is the first instance of a BJP government being formed in the eastern state.

The ceremony saw the presence of prominent leaders including BJP chief JP Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, and Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Cabinet ministers sworn in included Suresh Pujari, Rabinarayan Naik, Nityananda Gond, Krushna Chandra Patra, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, and Krushna Chandra Mohapatra.

Ministers of state (independent) included Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Suryabanshi Suraj, Pradeep Balasananta, Gokula Nanda Mallick, and Sampad Kumar Swain.

Chief ministers from several BJP-ruled states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand, were also in attendance.

Odisha’s outgoing chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, attended the ceremony, signifying a respectful transition of power.

The BJP secured a clear mandate in Odisha for the first time, ending the 24-year rule of the BJD.

The BJP secured 78 seats in the 147-member Assembly, while the BJD led by Naveen Patnaik won 51 seats. The Congress secured 14 seats, CPI(M) won one seat, and Independents claimed three seats.
