Instead, they can present one of 12 alternative photo identity documents to establish their identity at the polling booth.

The accepted documents are:

– Aadhar Card

– MNREGA Job Card

– Passbooks with photographs issued by banks or post offices

– Health insurance smart card issued under the Ministry of Labour scheme

– Driving License

– PAN Card

– Smart cards issued by RGI under NPR

– Indian Passport

– Pension document with photo

– Service identity cards with photographs issued by the Central or State Government, Public Undertakings, or Public Limited Companies to their employees

– Government identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs, or Legislative Council members

– Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India

This initiative aims to facilitate the voting process and ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised due to the lack of a Voter ID card.

The administration’s decision is expected to significantly enhance voter turnout by providing flexibility and accommodating various forms of identification.

Voters are encouraged to ensure they carry one of the specified alternative IDs to their respective polling booths on election day.
