Innovative Zero Waste Housing Society and Plastic Roads introduced on Earth Day
On World Earth Day, Tata Steel UISL launched several environmentally focused initiatives under the banner "Planet vs. Plastics," showcasing their commitment to sustainability. This year’s highlights include the inauguration of Prakriti Vihar, Jamshedpur’s first Zero Waste Housing Society equipped with a biogas plant, and significant advancements in plastic road construction.
JAMSHEDPUR – The introduction of the Zero Waste Housing Society, Prakriti Vihar, marked a major step forward in environmental stewardship.
This initiative not only promotes waste segregation and decentralized processing but also incorporates a biogas plant that processes wet waste, reducing reliance on landfills and generating renewable energy.
The recycling of dry waste further minimizes the ecological footprint of the community.
In a robust display of community involvement, Tata Steel UISL organized a mass tree plantation drive, which saw the participation of over 200 NCC cadets, 50 Scouts and Guides cadets, and company volunteers.
The initiative led to the planting of 2,500 saplings, including Bamboo, Alstonia, Karanj, and Teak, enhancing the local green cover and combating urban air pollution.
Another innovative project undertaken by Tata Steel UISL is the use of recycled plastic in road construction.
The recently completed stretch from Domuhani Junction to Dobo Roundabout utilized 1.659 metric tons of waste plastic in its construction, showcasing the potential for sustainable infrastructure development.
