In a major law enforcement operation, the Chaibasa Police, led by SP Ashutosh Shekhar, have arrested two key figures from the banned Naxalite group PLFI.
CHAIBASA – In a major law enforcement operation, the Chaibasa Police, led by SP Ashutosh Shekhar, have arrested two key figures from the banned Naxalite group PLFI.
The arrests include area commander Soma Hembram, also known as Najom, and his associate Birsa Khandait, captured near Chitir Hill in the Goilkera police station area.
Recovered from the duo were two AK-47 rifles, nine magazines, 188 rounds of live ammunition, 50,000 rupees in cash, and a mobile phone.
Soma Hembram, who faces 11 criminal charges in Chaibasa and Khunti districts, has been a significant figure in the group, known for extorting money and disrupting local development projects.
Birsa Khandait, involved in three cases, was also apprehended during the operation, which was informed by critical intelligence regarding their activities.
The operation was swiftly executed by a team specifically formed by SP Shekhar, resulting in the effective disruption of PLFI activities in the area.
This action not only represents a major setback for Naxalite operations but also serves as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in combating insurgencies.
