Bagbera to Install 70 Hand Pumps Across Panchayats to Combat Water Scarcity

Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Approves Plan, Drilling Depth Increased to 500 Feet

A comprehensive plan has been formulated to tackle the persistent water scarcity in the Bagbera area by installing new hand pumps across every panchayat. The initiative, set to commence following the conclusion of the election code of conduct, has received approval from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, signaling a significant step towards resolving the water crisis.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a concerted effort to address the prevailing water scarcity in the Bagbera area, authorities have devised a comprehensive plan to install new hand pumps across every panchayat.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Chief, has gained approval from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, paving the way for its implementation once the election code of conduct concludes.

The Drinking Water Department has instructed the Block Head to identify suitable locations for the installation of hand pumps and submit a detailed report accordingly.

A notable enhancement in the plan is the increase in drilling depth for the new hand pumps, which will now reach 500 feet, a significant increase from the previous 200 feet, ensuring better access to groundwater resources.

The initiative aims to provide relief to thousands of residents in the panchayat area who have been grappling with water scarcity, exacerbated by the drying up of more than 150 hand pumps.

The severity of the situation was highlighted in Hindustan’s April 3 publication, underscoring the urgent need for action.

Currently, approximately 30,000 residents in the area depend on tanker water supply, with tankers being dispatched every fourth day to cater to their needs.

Sunil Gupta, a member of the Panchayat Samiti, stressed the importance of assessing groundwater levels before installing hand pumps to ensure a sustainable water supply.

Additionally, arrangements will be made for rising pumps to prevent the rapid depletion of groundwater resources.

Sunil Kumar, Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, provided assurance that funds have been allocated annually for the installation of hand pumps during the summer months.

With the election code of conduct expected to be lifted soon, the installation process will be initiated promptly, prioritizing areas where funds have been sanctioned.

The concerted efforts of the authorities and the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department offer a glimmer of hope for the residents of Bagbera who have been grappling with water scarcity.

The installation of new hand pumps across every panchayat, coupled with the increased drilling depth, is expected to provide tangible relief and ensure a more sustainable water supply for the community.
