Leopard Scare in Adityapur Industrial Area Continues

School closure and production halt as leopard eludes capture

In Seraikela’s Adityapur-Gamharia industrial zone, efforts to capture a leopard sighted over the past three days have intensified, yet the elusive animal remains at large, prompting local disruptions including school closures for safety.

ADITYAPUR – The wayward and thus far elusive Leopard is now lurking in the mind and imagination of the people in Adityapur Industrial Area. People are concerned for safety and are avoiding exposure.

The presence of a leopard in the Adityapur-Gamharia industrial area has caused considerable concern among residents and authorities, leading to the temporary closure of Kerala Public School in Gamharia for the safety of its students.

Despite ongoing efforts by the forest department, including the enlistment of experts from Bankura, West Bengal, the leopard continues to evade capture, contributing to a growing sense of unease in the community.

The decision to shut down Kerala Public School emerged as an immediate response to the safety risks posed by the leopard’s proximity, with the school informing parents through messages and many arriving only to return home with their children.

Additionally, the industrial area is grappling with disruptions, as the sighting has led to a halt in production at some companies and a pervasive atmosphere of fear that has kept many children indoors.

The presence of the leopard, notably caught on CCTV at Indigo Motors within the Gamharia Industrial Area, has intensified vigilance, especially during night hours when the animal is most active.

Despite these challenges, the Forest Department, under the direction of Seraikela DFO Aditya Narayan, remains committed to monitoring the situation closely.

The incident has also affected local workers, with one laborer from RCB Plant 1, attacked by the leopard, currently receiving treatment in Cuttack, Odisha.

Meanwhile, old images of a leopard casualty on railway tracks have circulated online, heightening the community’s anxiety.

Community Response to Wildlife Presence

The leopard’s presence underscores the challenges of managing wildlife encounters in densely populated regions, prompting a multifaceted response from authorities and residents.

Safety Measures Amidst Leopard Sighting

As the search continues, the community’s focus on safety, including school closures and production pauses, reflects the serious impact of the leopard’s presence on daily life in the industrial area.
