Champai Soren’s Cabinet Approves Over 37 Lakh School Bags for Students and Major Agricultural Initiatives

In a strategic move hours before the Lok Sabha polls announcement, the Jharkhand Cabinet led by Chief Minister Champai Soren has sanctioned key welfare and developmental schemes.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Champai Soren, has approved a significant project to distribute school bags to over 37 lakh students in government schools across Classes 1 to 8, allocating Rs 57.06 crore for the initiative.

Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel announced the comprehensive approval of 53 proposals, highlighting the government’s commitment to education and agriculture. "Every student from Class 1 to 8 will receive school bags annually, with each bag costing between Rs 140 to Rs 160," Dadel specified, showcasing the state’s investment in educational infrastructure.

Boosting Millet Cultivation

In a major agricultural push, the Jharkhand Millet Mission received a boost with Rs 50 crore sanctioned to expand millet cultivation to five lakh hectares, up from the current 40,000 hectares. This initiative is aimed at enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agriculture practices in the state.

Enhancing Rural Infrastructure and Welfare

The Cabinet’s approval extended to schemes worth over a thousand crores for road development in the Santal Pargana region and the establishment of 91 Anganwadi centers in primitive tribal areas. Additionally, the introduction of the Jharkhand Employment of Teachers (JET) Rules 2024, provisioning of sanitary pads, and nutritional support in Anganwadi centers with the provision of gas cylinders for hot meals underscore the government’s holistic approach to social welfare.

"The Kisan Samriddhi Yojana, with an allocation of Rs 80 crore for the 2023-24 fiscal year, is set to revolutionize agricultural productivity and farmer prosperity in Jharkhand," stated Dadel, reflecting on the government’s efforts to bolster the agricultural sector.

Comprehensive Educational and Social Support

The government’s decisions also included compassionate appointment for Judge Uttam Anand’s wife in Dhanbad and the integration of teachers from unaided minority and secondary schools into the old pension scheme, ensuring security and support for educators.

With amendments regarding the age limit and term of office for the Jharkhand State Election Commissioner, the Soren administration demonstrates a commitment to governance reforms alongside its welfare initiatives.

This series of approvals reflects a strategic deployment of resources aimed at improving educational outcomes, agricultural productivity, and overall social welfare in Jharkhand, positioning the Soren government as a proactive agent of development and support for its citizens.
