Patients Forced to Seek Treatment on Stretchers and Wheelchairs
As seasonal diseases grip Jamshedpur, patients seeking treatment for fever, cold, body ache, and diarrhea are facing hardships due to a shortage of beds in the emergency ward of MGM Hospital, with not even standing space available on Thursday.
JAMSHEDPUR – There is a surge of patients in the OPD of MGM College Hospital. The influx of patients is on the rise and the number of patients seeking admissions too is increasing. However, there is a lack of resources as well as beds.
Efforts were also underway to repair all fans in the hospital wards, ensuring patient comfort amidst rising temperatures.
Meanwhile, repair work on air conditioning units had commenced at MGM Hospital, beginning with the administrative office and burn ward. Plans are in place to extend repairs to other departments, with department heads and doctors instructed to provide reports on conditions of ACs.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ravindra Kumar attributed the surge in patients to changing weather conditions, stating that while efforts were being made to provide medication, the hospital was grappling with a shortage of beds, with even the medicine ward exceeding its capacity.
More than 700 slips were issued for the Outpatient Department (OPD), with over 175 patients seeking treatment for seasonal ailments. Despite the continuous inflow of viral patients, the shortage of beds persisted throughout the day.
The 55-bed emergency ward was overcrowded, with nine patients accommodated on stretchers, while others received treatment sitting on wheelchairs or in the verandah due to lack of space.
