Jharkhand’s Education Drive: BIT Sindri University Status, Student Schemes
Jharkhand’s recent initiatives are set to revolutionize its higher and technical education sector, with BIT Sindri on track to gain university status and parallel with IITs.
RANCHI – Rahul Purwar, the Principal Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department in Jharkhand, announced ambitious plans to elevate BIT Sindri to university status, equating it with IITs.
During a departmental press conference, he outlined various schemes to enhance higher education and research quality in the state.
Initiatives include encouraging student employment and providing fellowships and incentives for advanced studies.
Garima Singh, Director of Higher Education, was also present at the event.
The state government has allocated Rs 5 crore to establish a State Level Astro Park at Netarhat, located along the Tropic of Cancer.
Plans are underway to set up a top-tier science center on the BIT Sindri campus and innovation centers in five government polytechnics, in collaboration with the National Science Museum Council, at an estimated Rs 16.80 crore.
The Guruji Student Credit Card Scheme has received an overwhelming response, with one lakh applications for higher education loans.
This scheme will soon facilitate loans of up to Rs 15 lakh at a nominal four percent interest, repayable post-completion of courses. For girl students, the interest rate is further reduced to 0.5 percent.
A significant fund of Rs 500 crore is earmarked to benefit over 2,000 students under this program.
Additionally, the Eklavya Training Scheme will offer free coaching for various competitive exams, including UPSC, JPSC, Bank, and Railways. 25 coaching institutes are being enlisted to support this initiative.
Students eligible for this scheme will also receive a stipend of Rs 2,500, benefitting around 27,000 students across Jharkhand.
