Rural Jamshedpur Protests Over Deteriorating Road Conditions

Locals in Jamshedpur’s rural areas lead a protest march against worsening road conditions, demanding immediate government action.

JAMSHEDPUR – A growing movement of villagers in the rural areas of Jamshedpur has taken to the streets to protest the deplorable state of their roads.

The public protest march originated from the Parsudih area, where former minister Ramchandra Sahis made a notable appearance.

The demonstration was spearheaded by Zilla Parishad member Kusum Purti.

For several years, the road from Khasmahal to Parsudih, Shankarpur, Barigoda, spanning approximately 8 kilometers, has been in terrible condition, with large potholes scattered throughout, presenting a daily accident risk.

The state of the road has deteriorated to such an extent that residents must navigate the route under a constant shadow of fear.

Local people have repeatedly initiated protests, but their efforts have resulted in no visible improvement.

One symbolic act of protest involved planting paddy in the road, but even this drastic measure failed to awaken the government and the local MLA.

Expressing their frustration, a public protest march was organized under the leadership of Zilla Parishad member Kusum Purti.

Local rural women, men, and former minister Ramchandra Sahis participated vocally in the march.

Zilla Parishad member Purti criticized the state government’s working style and questioned the efficacy of public representatives.

He emphasized that the road’s condition puts local lives at risk, and that residents fear using this main thoroughfare.

According to him, if a patient needs to be taken to the hospital via this road, they risk not making it.

Pregnant women cannot travel safely on this road, and children have become frequent accident victims.

He warned that if the government or people’s representatives fail to take immediate action, the community is prepared to escalate their protest into a larger movement.
