Improvements in Moharda drinking water project were discussed during a crucial meeting, where strategies for phase-2 expansion and present structure strengthening were deliberated.

JAMSHEDPUR – A significant meeting organized by the Urban Development and Housing Department took place in the auditorium of Ranchi Smart City.

The key agenda was to discuss ways to enhance the current structure of the Moharda drinking water supply project located in Birsanagar, Jamshedpur, and contemplate the implementation of its extended phase-2.

The meeting was presided over by Jamshedpur East MLA, Saryu Roy.

In attendance were significant figures including Judco’s Managing Director Amit Kumar, Dhalbhumgarh’s Sub-Divisional Officer Piyush Sinha, and Judco’s Project Officer (Technical) Gopal ji. Krishan Kumar, SUDA’s Deputy Director, represented the Urban Development Department.

Focus on New Connections and Infrastructure

Officials from Tata Steel outlined their progress in the project, noting the establishment of 5000 new drinking water connections and the validation of 3700 earlier illegal connections. They mentioned that the project was currently laying 7000 meters of a new pipeline to provide connections to 1000 new houses, which would significantly reduce the connection cost for consumers.

Suggestions and Future Plans

The officials proposed that the capacity of the Moharda drinking water supply project should be increased, with plans to build a dozen new water tanks.

They suggested replacing old tanks connected to a main pipe and connecting all tanks to different pipelines.

This way, all tanks could be filled simultaneously from the water treatment plant, ensuring regular water supply.

MLA Saryu Roy suggested separate systems for industrial and domestic water use in Jamshedpur.

He proposed pumping water from Chandil Dam to Dimna Lake for domestic use and drawing water directly from the river for industrial use.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled for July 22 in Jamshedpur, aiming to expedite the work of Phase-2 and strengthen the Moharda drinking water supply project.
