Kolhan Commissioner sets a goal to eradicate drugs from East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, planning campaigns and raising awareness in schools and colleges.

JAMSHEDPUR – Kolhan Commissioner and vice-chancellor of Kolhan University, Manoj Kumar, has announced his intention to rid the Seraikela-Kharsawan and Singhbhum districts of drugs.

During a lecture at the Jamshedpur Cooperative College’s NSS Unit, Kumar spoke about the planned campaigns in schools and colleges to address drug abuse and its impact on society.

He noted that students from eighth grade to graduation level are the most distracted and vulnerable to drug abuse due to hormonal, psychological, and physical changes.

Peer pressure and the influence of mafia groups often lead these students to substance abuse.

He warned that drug addiction could destroy careers and render education useless.

Kumar cited four main reasons identified by the National Institute on Drug Addiction (NIDA) for teenage drug addiction: poor communication, daily fighting between parents, harassment, and exploitation.

According to Kumar, drugs are trafficked into Kolhan from West Bengal and Odisha.

At the lecture, teachers, students, and visitors pledged to abstain from drugs.

Kumar stated that deputy commissioners from all three districts have been asked to initiate awareness programs about drug addiction in schools and colleges.

He also mentioned the formation of squads to combat drug trafficking in Kolhan, which have already seen significant success in their operations.

However, he noted a lack of punitive action against peddlers found with small amounts of narcotics, leading to additional training for the police in all Kolhan stations.
