DBMS English School Triumphs at Frank Anthony Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition in Loyola School

JAMSHEDPUR – In a display of exceptional oratorical skills and intellectual prowess, the Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition concluded on Monday, leaving participants and spectators deeply moved.

The event, named in honor of the late Frank Anthony, founder of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), brought together the city’s top students to engage in a battle of words and ideas.

DBMS English School emerged as the victors, securing the title of the best team in the debate. Priyanshu Kundu was awarded Best Speaker for his outstanding performance, while Demirra Oshon claimed the First Runner-Up prize. Carmel Junior College secured the second-place position.

These two teams have advanced to the Zone Round of the competition.

The Pool B-17 Stage 1 Category debate, centered around the topic "Facebook Friends Have Become More Real Than Real Friends," took place at Loyola School. Nine teams, including LFS, St. Anthony’s Academy, KPS Kadma, KPS Gamharia, JH Tarapore, SKPS, Carmel Junior College, Loyola School Bhubaneswar, and DBMS English School, participated in the intense verbal duel.

Distinguished judges Dr. Shantanu Chakrabarty, Dr. Sumita Maniktala, and Dr. Sujata Mitra assessed the performances, while Shamita Ahuja expertly moderated the event.

Dr. Shantanu Chakrabarty, an accomplished mechanical engineer and debater, holds a doctoral degree from Cranfield University in England.

Dr. Sumita Maniktala, a communication professional and consultant, has garnered recognition for her work through Sumita Maniktala Associates.

Dr. Sujata Mitra, a prolific researcher, has published numerous papers in national and international journals and authored the book "Thyroid Disorders" for Jaypee Publishers.

Shamita Ahuja, a renowned educator and skilled public speaker, ensured the smooth flow of the event as the moderator.

The debates touched upon a wide range of issues, including global warming, workplace sexism, artificial intelligence (AI), and the influence of social media on youth culture. Students from various educational institutions showcased their depth of knowledge and delivered thought-provoking arguments. The judges acknowledged the genuine efforts and passion displayed by the participants.

The event began with opening remarks by Father Principal Vinod Fernandes, followed by the moderator taking charge of the proceedings.

The competition witnessed a vibrant exchange of viewpoints and perspectives, highlighting the contestants’ dedication and talent.

The Frank Anthony Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition not only provided a platform for students to express their thoughts but also fostered critical thinking and public speaking skills.
