Bunty Guha, accused of extortion in Jamshedpur under the alias of Sonu Singh, nabbed by police in Kolkata.
JAMSHEDPUR – In a major breakthrough, the local police apprehended Bunty Guha, a resident of Parsudih, who was accused of demanding extortion money from Jamshedpur’s businessmen under the guise of Sonu Singh.
Singh is a convict in the Upendra Singh murder case and is presently lodged in Ranchi’s Hotwar Jail. The police swung into action following a complaint lodged by Sidhgora resident, Amit Chawla, on July 5.
The Breakthrough
Chawla informed the police that he had been receiving phone calls with extortion demands in the name of Sonu Singh. Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation, leading to Guha’s arrest in Golf Green, Kolkata. Guha has numerous cases registered against him across different police stations in the city.
Jailhouse Revelations
During interrogation, Guha revealed his modus operandi to the police. He had encountered various criminals during his time in jail and it was here that he got the idea of extorting money posing as Sonu Singh. Guha was released on bail on March 23. After his release, he began obtaining operator numbers from shop signboards to make his extortion calls.
Escape and Capture
Guha confessed that he had attempted to extort Amit Chawla. When the news of his activities was published in the newspapers, he fled to Kolkata. The police tracked him down and arrested him in Kolkata, from where he was sent to jail.
