Jharkhand’s chief minister Hemant Soren emphasizes geo mapping of minor water sources in the state’s mountainous regions to increase their water storage capacity and ensure proper use.
RANCHI – Jharkhand’s Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, has instructed officials to geomap the state’s minor water sources located in its mountainous regions.
The initiative aims to augment their water storage capacity and guarantee their optimal use.
Geomapping for Optimizing Water Resources
The Chief Minister pointed out the existence of “chuans” (minor water resources) and small springs in Jharkhand’s mountainous districts during a MGNREGA council meeting.
He authorized the officials to formulate a project for geo mapping these water sources to enhance their utilization and storage capacity.
Additionally, potential locations for wells under the promotion project are also to be geomapped.
Birsa Harit Gramme Yojana and MGNREGA Programme
Chief Minister Soren unveiled his directive to officials for the Birsa Harit Gramme Yojana, instructing the planting of fruit-bearing trees on 50,000 hectares of land.
As of June in the fiscal year 2023–24, 34.28 lakh job cards and 42.93 lakh active laborers are registered under MGNREGA, and nearly 100% of wages have been delivered on time under the plan.
Of the finished schemes in the current fiscal year, 403,817 were completed under the Nilambar-Pitamber Jal Samridhi Yojana, which has 333,123 completed projects in total.
Current Status of Other Schemes
As for other projects, 3,537 of the 4,776 Veer Shaheed Poto Ho Sports Development Scheme projects have been completed.
The Didi Bagiya scheme is implementing 394 programs, with 162,372 of the 298,690 Didi Bari schemes completed.
The Birsa Irrigation Well Promotion Scheme is currently constructing 23,958 wells.
Lokpal Operations and Social Audits
Lokpal appointments are nearing completion in five districts, with Lokpal already functional in 16 districts.
During social audits of MGNREGA, 1,234,956 cases of financial discrepancies, deviations, procedural breaches, and complaints were identified.
Out of these, 63,819 have been addressed, and an Action Taken Report (ATR) has been submitted for 87,092 cases.
