In light of recent changes to the education policy in Jharkhand, teachers, and non-teaching staff from colleges across Jamshedpur have taken part in a symbolic protest, donning black badges to voice their opposition to government policies.
JAMSHEDPUR – On June 26, 2023, teachers and non-teaching staff from colleges across Jamshedpur donned black badges in a collective protest against the government’s new policies. These changes, in line with the new education policy in Jharkhand, have led to the abolition of intermediate education in 62 constituent colleges across the state.
The policy changes have created a situation where thousands of students from both rural and urban areas are left stranded, struggling to secure enrollment in educational institutions. According to the protestors, the current administration, including state officials and ministers, is neglecting the plight of these students.
If enrollment doesn’t resume in the current session, the protestor’s claim, around 5,000 teachers and staff members across Jharkhand, along with their 20,000 family members, risk becoming unemployed. Consequently, educators and employees from all over the state have risen up against the government’s policies, demanding the initiation of class 11th enrollment and adjustments to the current policy.
Students have also joined the protest, demanding their right to education. However, according to the protestors, the government and officials have only provided assurances, with no concrete initiatives being undertaken to address their grievances.
