DDC Meets Fishermen, Co-operatives; Chalks Out Plans to Boost Fish Production in East Singhbhum

East Singhbhum, under the leadership of Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, aims to become a hub of fish production, implementing several schemes to empower local fishermen and multiply current production levels by five.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a recent meeting held at the District Auditorium, Deputy Development Commissioner Mr. Manish Kumar, alongside cooperative society members and Matsya Mitras, outlined his vision to make East Singhbhum a hub of fish production in the next year.

Aiming to quintuple the existing fish production, the meeting, which also had in attendance District Fisheries Officer Mrs. Alka Panna and Fisheries Extension Officer Mr. Amarendra Kumar Verma, discussed the necessity of making cooperative societies more active or risk losing government benefits.

Mr. Kumar emphasized that several schemes by the Jharkhand Government are in place to empower farmers and fishermen and increase their income.

He called for fishermen to adopt the latest technology and urged the Fisheries Officer to conduct a district level workshop the next Saturday.

Efforts to associate new fishermen were also discussed, with the administration ready to take necessary steps.

The meeting also brought up the issue of encroached government ponds, leading to a call for an executive meeting to provide a list of such ponds.

Assurances were given regarding the renovation of smaller ponds under MNREGA, and fishermen were encouraged to renovate their private ponds.

In closing, the Deputy Development Commissioner discussed the benefits of horticultural schemes among farmers and fishermen.
