A pick-up van hits a cyclist near Bhutia village, leading to the death of a 13-year-old boy and serious injuries to his father. Locals block road demanding compensation.
JAMSHEDPUR – A tragic road accident occurred near Bhutia village on the Matihana-Chakulia main road, leading to the death of a 13-year-old boy and serious injuries to his father. A pick-up van with license plate WB 33 C 9203, driven by Sandeep Das, hit a cyclist from behind and then overturned.
Father Kanhu Murmu (47 years old) and his son Badal Murmu were returning to their village, Pathra, from Bahragora on their bicycle when the accident occurred.
Unfortunately, Badal was killed instantly at the scene, while Kanhu sustained severe injuries. Sandeep Das also suffered minor injuries as a result of the van overturning.
On hearing of the incident, villagers, enraged over the death of the child, blocked the road demanding compensation.
This led to long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road. Barsole police, upon receiving information about the accident, rushed to the scene.
They arranged for the injured Kanhu to be taken to the Bahragora Community Health Center in a police vehicle. After administering first aid, the doctors referred him for more advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
An ambulance arrived shortly afterward to transport the deceased child. However, villagers initially refused to let the body be moved, continuing to demand compensation.
After a lot of persuasion from police officials, the villagers finally agreed to allow the body to be taken for post-mortem.
As news of the accident spread, a large crowd of villagers gathered at the scene. The villagers remained adamant in their demand for compensation for a long time.
