Musabani BDO Seema Kumari’s swift intervention saves many lives
Jamshedpur – Malaria has rapidly spread among more than two dozen families in Suryabera village, located in the remote and hilly region of Musabani block, East Singhbhum, Jharkhand. The outbreak has primarily affected children and women, with many now admitted to Musabani Community Health Centre for treatment.
Seema Kumari, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Musabani block, discovered the alarming situation during an inspection of the local school.
She noticed a significantly reduced number of students in attendance and quickly learned that most of the village’s children had fallen ill.
In response, Kumari promptly arranged for the affected children to be admitted to the Community Hospital in Musabani.

In addition to the children, many adults in the village have also fallen ill and are now receiving treatment.
Prior to the intervention, the villagers had been relying on traditional herbal remedies for treatment, with one individual in critical condition.
Dr. Sundar Lal Mardi, a doctor at the Musabani Community Health Centre, confirmed that all the patients are suffering from malaria.
He emphasized the importance of their timely arrival at the hospital, as any delay could have resulted in a far worse outcome.
Suryabera village’s remote location has made access to healthcare challenging for its residents. The rugged and hilly terrain of the Musabani block is difficult to navigate, with no roads leading directly to the village.

As a result, the villagers have primarily depended on the local traditional vaidyas for treatment.
This malaria outbreak underscores the need for better infrastructure and healthcare accessibility in remote areas like Suryabera village.
Locals say that there is an urgent need to take immediate action to prevent further health crises in the region.
